James H Hanley was born in Witinsville, MA in 1903. He moved to Pawtucket with his family when he was a boy. He graduated from the Broadway Gammsr School in 1917. His first experience with Radio was at age 12 in his grammar school days when he built a crystal set. 1
He was a amateure radio operator with the call W1AFW and he built his own powerful transmitter to work on 30 or 160 meters and cpable ofcontacting other amateurs all over the world. 1
In 1929 Mr. Hanley is working for the Blackstone Valley Gas and Electric Company scouring the city looking for Radio interference caused by the companies transmission lines. When the company gets a call about interference, Mr Hanley goes to the customers home to find the source. In most cases the source is inside the customers home itself or problem is with the customers set itself.
